The first album with Ian Gillan and Roger Glover and the MK II.

The album title is intended to be a parallel to the 'Deep Purple in Concert' notion of the preceding Concerto for Group and Orchestra album. The album is arguably more well-known as simply "In Rock".

"Speed King" was written and performed live in 1969 and was titled "Kneel and Pray", but the label forced the title to be changed because it was a reference to oral sex. The song was reworked and renamed for inclusion on the album.

"Bloodsucker" was re-recorded for the album Abandon (1998) and retitled "Bludsucker".

Recording information:

Recorded at IBC's Studio A (Portland Place), De Lane Lea (Kingsway) and Abbey Road studios, London; from October 1969 to April 1970.
